Morton’s Neuroma

Morton’s Neuroma is a condition that thickens the tissue around a nerve in the ball of your foot, between your arch and toes.

You may or may not realize you have Morton’s neuroma, as it isn’t always painful. This is a condition that thickens the tissue around a nerve in the ball of your foot, between your arch and toes. The term neuroma refers to a swelling of a nerve. The nerve commonly affected is a small nerve that connects the 3rd and 4th toes, counting from the big toe. The patient will complain of pain in the sole of the foot.

Morton’s neuroma occurs most commonly in middle-aged women and can be caused by high heels, too-tight shoes, athletics requiring repetitive movements, or foot or gait abnormality.

Treatment of neuromas

Treatments can include orthotics, although sometimes removal of the growth is necessary.
